Along with Tine Luyt, the initiator of the website Modebewust, I gave a lecture about Sustainable Design for international students from the prestigious Dutch Design Academy in Eindhoven yesterday. We were very pleased to be invited to this inspiring industrial building that used to be the Philips Light Factory. Tine and I talked about some developments in sustainable design and we gave the students some tips and examples. The aim was to see some innovative eco designs of these great students in the near future.

Tine Luyt initiated a sustainable fashion workgroup in higher fashion education many years ago. Since then she has been putting a lot of positive energy and effort in integrating sustainability in fashion design schools in the Netherlands. One of the tools to push this is the organization of Beyond Green. This year in November the third symposium will be organized by AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute , Artez Institute for the Arts and Modebewust. The goal is to inform and inspire Dutch fashion students through lectures and an exhibitions.

Fortunately, an alumni student of the Design Academy, Lotte van Latuum is already involved in innovative sustainable design (don’t miss the great interview she gives on the “designer” page of her website). We hope fashion design students will follow in her steps!
