| SHOPPING TO IMPROVE THE WORLD |
| Written by Annouk Post - Wednesday, 25 February 2009 | |
This week, the Stoere Vrouwen were promoting the delights of an eco lifestyle. By presenting products like tea, chocolate, wine and books they inspired a lot of Dutch women at the Housekeeping Fair. This event is one of the biggest events in the Netherlands and attracts 250.000 women every year. Today I joined their team of volunteers. I slipped on their edgy green army outfit, pink French barrette and high-heeled pumps: absolutely glamorous! Thousands of hyper energetic women came along with big shopping bags mostly filled with free samples of cornflakes and beauty products. Actually this might be the place where the saying “Going Dutch” was born. It was an interesting and happy day. With my lovely colleagues, I handed out discount tickets for online eco fashion store watMooi. While giving the visitors of the fair a hand massage with Lush massage bars, spontaneous conversations started about the do’s and don’ts of living a green lifestyle. What I like most about these positive minded ladies is their guerrilla “Shopping Army”! They march through mainstream shopping streets yelling “Improve the world, go shopping!”, check out their movie:
