Born and raised in India, Avni’s designer Avni Trivedi spent years immersed in the rich history, vibrant fashion and beautiful art of Indian culture. From a young age, the crafts of local artisans fascinated Trivedi, who fell in love with the handmade fabrics she scouted out at artisan fairs in the villages of Gujarat. She learned commerce from her grandfather, who headed a textile research unit, and ingenuity from her mother, a successful entrepreneur in India’s fashion industry. She now resides in Boston, United States, designing with a passion for supporting the preservation of ancient textile arts in India.
Avni is the Sanskrit word for Earth, and Avni philosophy is to preserve and present Earth’s heritage by bringing forth indigenous textile arts that have been practiced for centuries. Avni’s designs are created from 100% naturally dyed, hand-made fabrics, crafted specifically for Avni collections. Avni is for women who appreciate the beauty of hand-made fabrics, who enjoy wearing something truly one-of-a-kind, and who enjoy celebrating their femininity.

Avni focuses on offering fashion collections that are environmentally responsible and support the artisan fabric-making industry. All Avni designs are crafted from fabrics that are commissioned exclusively by Avni. These fabrics are hand-made, utilizing customs that are hundreds of years old and uphold the tradition and history of India’s celebrated artisans. By requisitioning these fabrics, Avni not only helps maintain economic stability for artists, but also helps keep these ancient arts alive. All fabrics including organic bamboo, organic cotton and peace silk, are 100% hand-dyed using herbs and flowers, and woven by individual artists.
