The Observer Ethical Awards, in association with Ecover, have launched for 2010. Now in their fifth year the awards pay tribute to the great and the green. Lucy Siegle, Ethical Living Correspondent for The Observer and chair of the judging panel said, ‘It has never been more important to stand up and take positive action. The new decade is about individuals, communities and businesses fighting for environmental and social justice. The disappointment of Copenhagen illustrates what happens when we devolve the responsibility to politicians and process. Fortunately the real green innovation and dynamism is to be found in the people up and down the country who, over the last 12 months, have really effected change, not just talked about it! There are some fantastic ethical champions in the UK and we can’t wait to hear from them.’

The success of this year’s Project Earth Day eco-runway show which took place in April in NYC was a brilliant indication that green fashion is no longer just a fad. The energy-packed show featured today’s hottest eco-lines
as well as a student competition which challenged the brightest
designers of tomorrow to whip up their own sustainable garments. All of
the designs were brilliant, but in the end, FIT student Stacy Longo’s mod, hand-woven outfit
prevailed, winning her the grand prize. We were lucky enough to catch
up with Stacy to pick her brain about the inspiration for her design
and what eco-fashion means to her.

Actually no. The folks at Pants to Poverty are offering a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to India to celebrate Diwali, the ancient Indian festival of lights, in Andhra Pradesh. We’re told that if you’re the lucky winner then you’ll be able to ‘party with the tribal cotton farmers’ who are ridding the world of bad pants, one pair at a time. You’ll get a factory visit of where the lovely Pants to Poverty fair trade and organic options are made too.

EFW’s own Kim Poldner seems to be in tune with the times in her two recent blogs about Ecofeminism and Female Entrepreneurship.
This past month has seen awards and accolades bestowed upon two green entrepreneurs, who also happen to be the owners of great eco fashion boutiques!
