ABURY Holds 2nd Edition of Design Experience

Following the huge success of last year’s first edition, ABURY and Harper's Bazaar Germany present the second edition of the Sustainable Global Accessories Design Contest for international emerging designers.

ABURY, the Berlin based fashion label that focuses on creative skills that inspire change has announced its latest open call. The 2016 ABURY Design Experience presented by Harper’s Bazaar opened the online application for emerging designers from the 14th of February on adex.abury.net.

The one-of-its-kind contest is supported again by a prestigious jury of international professionals of the luxury fashion, lifestyle and sustainability world. Supermodel and designer Eva Padberg joined the jury this year: “The ABURY Design Experience is a unique way for young designers to broaden their horizon and find, not only new inspiration, but also the opportunity to create their own voice. Working with traditional ways of craftsmanship and thinking on a more sustainable level, is exactly what fashion should be moving towards to.“

2015 brought designers from 35 different countries to take action and apply to revive the world’s dying artisanal heritage by blending their modern design innovation. Pam Samasuwo-Nyawiri, a Zimbabwean designer based in the UK was the first winner of ADEX and spent two months in Ecuador, creating an amazing bag collection with local artisans.

Designers and artisans from different cultural backgrounds come together with the curiosity to explore each other's world. The combination of creative ideas creates emotional bonds and the products birthed are testimonies of a successful intercultural understanding! This contest proves that "Design has the power to change the world“!

 

How does it work?


Applications are now open until 31 March 2016. Participants should be 23 years old and above. Fashion graduates should have less than 5 years after graduation. The partner country for 2016 is Morocco and a designer will be spending up to two months in Marrakesh, creating an accessory capsule collection with local artisans. The collection will be marketed and sold under the name of ABURY and the designer, where 50% of the profits will be re-invested in education projects in Morocco.

Harper’s Bazaar Germany and ABURY will select up to 20 designers for the semi-finals. Through public voting, 5 finalists will be defined. The winner will then be chosen by the prestigious international jury panel which includes international Supermodel and designer Eva Padberg, Bibi Russell, Fashion for Development; Karen Heumann, Member of the Board of Thjnk AG; Kerstin Schneider, Editor in Chief, Harper’s Bazaar Germany; CEO 100 Days of African Fashion, Diana Opoti, Diana Verde Nieto, CEO Positive Luxury; Waridi Schrobsdorff, Founder of fa254 and more. Partners of the contest include Harper’s Bazaar Germany, Positive Luxury, KPMG, Dr. Hauschka and AEG with their #caremore initiative.
