The Observer Ethical Awards, in association with Ecover, have launched for 2010. Now in their fifth year the awards pay tribute to the great and the green. Lucy Siegle, Ethical Living Correspondent for The Observer and chair of the judging panel said, ‘It has never been more important to stand up and take positive action. The new decade is about individuals, communities and businesses fighting for environmental and social justice. The disappointment of Copenhagen illustrates what happens when we devolve the responsibility to politicians and process. Fortunately the real green innovation and dynamism is to be found in the people up and down the country who, over the last 12 months, have really effected change, not just talked about it! There are some fantastic ethical champions in the UK and we can’t wait to hear from them.’ The fashion and accessories category, sponsored by Marie Claire, has in the past been awarded to People Tree, Finisterre and Terra Plana. With ethical fashion in boom and creativity at a high this category celebrates the strengths within this industry. This category supports the growth of ethical fashion labels and products. From London fashion week to the high street, ethical fashion is increasingly seen as aspirational and accessible. Are you a designer, fashion house or retailer who can demonstrate a real commitment to sustainable fashion? Do your ethical ideals extend from the catwalk to your supply chain? Last year, People Tree were honored with this prestigious award – who will be this year's winners? This category is open to entries from fashion labels or retailers only – if you have an ethical fashion favorite why not drop them a line to encourage them to enter? The deadline for entries is the 12 March 2010 and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London later in the year. Other than the fantastic exposure there are also some pretty great prizes to win!
