On Oct 28th Holt Renfrew Vancouver was pleased to welcome TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie at his first ever Canadian in-store personal appearance.

This was not a typical Holt Renfrew event. Blake challenged the customers of Holts to an air hockey tournament. If the customer lost, they had to buy a pair of TOMS shoes, of which TOMS would match with their one for one philosophy (for every pair a customer purchases, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need). If Blake lost, he had to buy the customer a pair of shoes. Sound fair? Well little did the crowd know that Blake was an air hockey super star who ended up winning 18 consecutive games! He did have to dish out 4 pairs in the end to four ladies who seemed to also have a knack for the game. Maybe Blake was a little tired by that point?

In many developing countries, children grow up without shoes, which can lead to injury, disease and lack of education due to schools requiring shoes as part of their uniform.

TOMS gives shoes to children in need in 24 countries including Argentina, South Africa, and China.

Other brands have been attracted to this TOMS mission of giving, resulting in unique and successful collaborations such as with Ralph Lauren and Element Skateboards.
