PREMIUM EXHIBITS BERLIN
A good trade show can show industry decision makers, designers and visionaries what’s new—and next up—in the world of sustainable design. That’s why we’ve rounded up some can’t-be-missed trade shows and exhibitions around the globe that are going on now through March of 2010. Going on in the month of January, Designers&Agents visionaries Barbara Kramer and Ed Mandelbaum will spot and showcase key talent in upcoming collections in each of the five U.S. markets. In the past, ethical designers like Edun, Stewart & Brown, Loomstate, and Namaste Green House have been featured at D&A events. This trade show makes its way to Los Angeles from January 15-17 and to New York City on February 20-22. More dates and locations are available through designersandagents.com.
ELENA GARCIA
After the big launch in July 2009, THEKEY.TO, an international event for green fashion and sustainable lifestyle, gets ready for its second edition as the unique fair of the Berlin Fashion Week entirely focused on sustainable fashion. While this will go from January 20-23, PREMIUM Berlin, a contemporary trade platform open exclusively to exhibitors, buyers and press reps, will coincide on January 20-22.
A SAMPLING OF NANAI LEATHER
Germany’s PREMIUM International Fashion Trade Show will be presenting 900 international fall/winter 2010/2011 collections, along with a wide variety of accessories and shoes. In addition -- and of the most interest to ethical fashion gurus -- is that it will feature PREMIUM Green Luxury, with innovative brands like nanai, the sole German producer of nanai leather. This leather is derived from salmon skins, a former waste product of fish canneries. nanai has developed an eco-friendly process to tan and dye the skins. The Go Green Expo returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center at the end of January (with businesses taking a peek on January 22 and the event open to the public on the weekend of January 23-24). Following last year's show that reached more than 10,000 attendees, Go Green Expo 2010 will focus on the next steps in environmental responsibility and the growing green revolution. A few of the eco-celebrities joining this year include actress and holistic living author Mariel Hemingway, award-winning actor and director Ed Begley Jr., industry adored eco futurist John Picard, and eco-fashion icon Linda Loudermilk. It will head to Pier 92 in New York City in mid-March and hit other U.S. cities, like Philadelphia, over the course of the rest of 2010.
LE SHOW ROOM
Back in November, EFW reported that EcoChic Geneva would take place from January 20-21 at the Palais des Nations, the UN headquarters in Geneva. Well, this is fast approaching, with event commencing with a day and a half seminar "Redefining Sustainability in the International Agenda" from the perspective of the fashion and cosmetics industries. Highlights include the launch of a Sustainable Fashion Exhibition and dramatic EcoChic Fashion Show featuring sustainable and ethical ready-to-wear and couture looks by fashion designers from around the globe. The Exhibition will be opened to the public free of charge until February 4. At Le Showroom in France from March 4-7, the Parisian venue promises 55 collections of which “a dozen of organic & fair trade collections bringing naturalness and simplicity together in the light of new refinement.” Exhibitors like ODD (organic design dose) and Elena Garcia eco-couture are set to be at the event.
