New York: May 20
Textile artist and regular EFW contributor, Abigail Doan, curates an exhibition at Green Spaces NY starting this Thursday May 20. (Re)Fashioning Fiber examines new ways of thinking about fiber in relation to the natural environment, our patterns of consumption and contemporary definitions of fashioning self. The exhibition includes collaborative environmental fiber art from Iran; handcrafted vegetation jewelry from Bulgaria; sustainable, locally-minded fashion and drawings by Eko-Lab; no-waste textile fashion by Study NY; recycled ‘flotsam fiber’ from the streets of NYC; handmade books spinning tales about global pilgrimage; crochet tower structures infused with sound; and one-of-a-kind fiber expressions from the domestic realm. Opening party is on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and the exhibition will be on view through August 13, 2010.
