From October 10th to the 18th, independent umbrella label Made-By organizes “The Week of Sustainable Fashion”, in association with Dutch retailers. The aim is to create awareness for fashion that has been produced in an environmental and socially sustainable way. Retailers throughout the country shine the spotlight on ethical fashion and Made-By supports their efforts with a media campaign and several events. Research done by Dutch textile magazine Textilia reveals that 80% of the Dutch population is interested in sustainably produced clothing. Unfortunately this doesn’t yet show in sales numbers. Made-By wants to make eco fashion more visible for the consumer so that he or she can act on their interest. One way the organization has been working on this visibility is by attaching their famous blue button to the brands that are Made-By members. The Week of Sustainable Fashion will start on Friday October 10th with an international networking event in Amsterdam. Fashion labels, manufacturers and NGO’s from all over the world will come together to discuss strategies to stimulate sustainable production. Throughout the week, Made-By actively engages youth by organizing several events such as the Fair Fashion Show in Delft on October 10 and Jeans4Charity in Rotterdam on October 17. Made-By is a quickly growing umbrella label that supports fashion brands in cleaning up their supply chains. Their headquarters are in Amsterdam with a recently established office in Germany and a new office in the UK opening in 2009.
