Geneva, Switzerland is not typically known for its celebrity designer runway events, but this will change soon with the arrival of EcoChic Geneva on January 20-21, 2010. To celebrate the conclusion of 2009’s International Years for Natural Fibers, the Hong Kong based non-profit Green2Greener will collaborate with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to host a series of activities that will highlight the importance of natural fibers and biodiversity in sustainable development strategies. Included in this collaborative effort will be the launch of a Sustainable Design Exhibition and Competition, and a dramatic EcoChic Fashion Show featuring sustainable and ethical ready-to-wear and eco-couture created by fashion designers from around the globe.

2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity, so it seems fitting that Green2Greener’s organizers have carefully selected a broad range of fashion talent from all corners of the globe. Eco and ethical ready to-wear designers scheduled for the runway presentation include Bahar Shahpar, Deux FM, Elena Garcia, Fin Oslo, Kumvana Gomani, Lalesso, Leila Hafzi, Noir, Nixxi, The Andean Collection, and Shazia Saleem, to name a few.

The event’s eco couture line-up features a true cross-section of global design stars whose presentations will highlight the beauty and promise of natural fibers and sustainable fabrics. Alexandre Herchcovitch (Brazil), Diane Von Furstenberg (Belgium), Thakoon Panichgul (Thailand), Maciej Zien (Poland), John Rocha (Ireland), Evgeni Petkov (Bulgaria), and Reem Alasadi (Iraq – UK) are all included in the amazing couture roster.

EcoChic Geneva will take place at the Palais des Nations, the UN headquarters in Geneva. The event will commence with a one and a half day seminar, which will address the importance of integrating social, economic and environmental sustainability into corporate strategies.
