There’s nothing like mixing some of the glam with the real on the ground stuff and French eco trainer brand Veja have done just that. With a collection of gorgeous photography from the very talented Florent Dermarchez who followed Veja’s founders, Francois and Sebastian around as they went about speaking to their suppliers in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest. But it’s not just trees to ogle: there’s colorful photography of the ‘seringeuiros’ (rubber tappers) who go about their business naturally collecting the wild rubber that is used to create the soles of these very soulful trainers. The exhibition also reveals new initiatives such as their organic cotton developments where they work with farmers who use natural deterrents rather than pesticides, and tanneries that are dyeing leather using Acacha and other vegetable extracts in the Northeast of Brail. The exhibition offers a fabulous insight into the company’s driving question: ‘is another world possible?' Demarchez’s fabulous ‘Novo Mundo’ exhibition is currently showing at East London’s very trendy Favela Chic until the 30th March 2009, so catch it whilst you can.

Extremes in contrast are a problem for both film and digital photography, but it is especially a problem when shooting digital. When the highlights and shadows are too extreme, the detail in both areas are in jeopardy of being lost. Even you try to "average" the exposure, a compromise between the light and dark areas, the shadows tend to go black and the highlights are washed out.
