The third-annual Project Earth Day runway show and student design competition is taking place in lower Manhattan this Thursday, April 23rd. Project Earth Day 2009 promises to be even greener and more stunningly state-of-the-art as a fashion-forward showcase for sustainable style. The show’s uber-talented co-producer, Bahar Shahpar, has teamed up with the US Green Building Council and the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) to collaborate on what will surely be a spectacular demonstration of how the fashion and building sectors are true green innovators and visionary forces. The theme of this year’s much-anticipated event is ‘Through the Looking Glass: An Exploration of Scale and Proportion’. The show’s organizers have take on the role of shape shifting agents of change as they look closely at the big and small footprints we create and also leave behind: “ Our wonderland is present-day New York City, viewed through a distorted lens – where big is small, small is big, and the worlds of building and fashion collide through an exploration of scale.” There is no doubt that the steady momentum of today’s eco fashion world benefits from collaborations such as Project Earth Day, as student designers rub elbows with established eco fashion designers on the same runway, and for the same good reasons. An amazing line-up of sponsors have contributed to this year’s event at Nolita’s Openhouse Gallery - proof perhaps that sustainability and eco initiatives are catching on in a variety of sectors. The student design competition promises to be the night’s glimpse into the future, as fresh young talent digs deep to define the road ahead for eco fashion trends.

It is always good to see these designers use eco-friendly fabrics in their new lines! Check out http://theworldshatsource.blogspot.com/ to see what types of fabrics can be used to create real earth conscious styles and designs.
