Watch out Lacoste, there’s a new kid in town! The story behind Sébola started on the Seine riverbanks where founder and marathon runner Loïc Pollet got the idea during his daily run. Working in the fashion industry for many years, he wondered why sportswear wasn’t produced in an ethical manner. An instant thought became a business plan when marketing and internet expert Philippe de Cagny joined the project. Their collaboration has resulted in the newly launched Sébola web store.

EFW met the men behind the label at Ethical Fashion Show in Paris two weeks ago: “We only launched last week, we’re kind of nervous for an interview!” was Philippe’s reaction to our camera. But, after winning the Ethical Fashion Show Award 2008, they couldn’t go unnoticed. They won the Award for their positioning between sports and fashion and their global approach to the conceptualization of eco practices throughout their supply chain.

Sébola offers two collections for both work-out and day wear. The sports collection is produced of materials such as tencel and recycled polyester while the casual collection is made of 100% organic cotton, certified by EKO and GOTS. The affordable collections consist of T-shirts, sports shorts and pants, polo’s and sweaters. The look is clean and techie with black & white for the sports collection and grey mixed with primary colors for the lifestyle collection. All of Sébola’s clothes are created around aesthetics, technique and care for the environment. As Loïc put it in our interview: “Creating Sébola took us two years and was an exercise in endurance”. We sincerely hope you get fit too while wearing their clothes!
