SUITE TA BU

The green movement is about so many things, but an undeniable characteristic of the movement can be described as a time for creative expulsion. The challenge to find solutions to our environmental issues has allowed us a platform to search deep in our souls to come up with new and healthier ways to do things. The fashion and beauty industries are taking a strong initiative and What Is Suite Ta Bu is a prime example of this.

BE LOVE FOR ALL

Founded by Akidah Njuzu, a self-labeled ‘bohemian spa addict,’ Suite Ta Bu enthusiastically represents individual creativity inspired by environmental concern and relentless determination. Launched in 2009, Suite Ta Bu is an online green element boutique booming with creative energy that is sure to be contagious. To give you a better understanding of Suite Ta Bu, Akidah made some time to talk to EFW.

EFW: Tell me about the beginning of Suite Ta Bu. What does it mean and what was the inspiration behind it?

AN: In terms of inspiration, our name is the key to it all. The word Suite in our context refers to a “retinue,” our philosophy is really to be in service to our guests and ultimately stylists to the eco savvy. The word Ta is a Hindu word for beautiful and simultaneously an Egyptian word for earth. Lastly, the word “Bu” is a Vietnamese word for leader and a Japanese word for warrior. Our mission at Suite Ta Bu is to serve those who are dedicated to leading the charge of protecting our planet - from soul to sole.

Suite Ta Bu began as a friend-supported idea which developed into a green element boutique and now includes a mobile spa tour, web presence, catalogue and our own line of apparel. We also offer wellness accessories, handmade jewelry, and eco home fitness equipment.

I think so many women are rock stars. My mother worked for a relief organization, which empowered third world women entrepreneurs, and exposed me to international beauty, independent fashion and eclectic living; and she was a single parent! It’s hard to doubt your abilities when you have met so many women who have accomplished so much while overcoming vast obstacles to realize their own potential. Margaret Meade once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

EFW: What makes your brand ethical?

AN: We have a mission and service philosophy as a green element boutique that we stick to. We do not support harm to animals through product creation and/or testing and therefore, we do not carry non-sustainable leather items, products that have been tested on animals or toxic cosmetics. We support independent artisans and crafts people globally and through our blog, we strive to educate the public on different ways they can decrease their carbon footprint through things like up-cycling, supporting sustainable projects and pairing new jewelry with vintage finds.

EFW: Why is it so important to you to offer ethical/green products?

AN: I am passionate about future generations having a planet to call home on which they can thrive. I am in awe of the imagination of other artists in creating stylish accents, new sustainable interpretations of classics and pushing the boundaries of “standard beauty” to be more reflective of the earth’s inhabitants.

EFW: What is your overall vision for the future of Suite Ta Bu?

AN: To incite a “beautiful self” revolution, that inspires people to start from within and be the muses that causes a mass shift in the “unconscious consumer” mentality.
