![]() SELITA-BANKS Costumes are the biggest part of most people’s Halloween celebrations and with the holiday peering right around the corner, those of you who have not yet planned your ensemble could maybe use a few tips. Following the spirit of sustainability, consider some or all of these creative options in putting together your costume this year:
*Buy some wire and shape it into wings then wrap netting around it and strap it onto your back with some pretty ribbon. *Use a large black drawstring garbage bag as a cape by cutting it open and using the drawstring to tie it on. The point is to get creative and have fun with it!

For those of you who want to incorporate a ‘giving back’ element into the super fun holiday festivities, check out Halloween For Hunger , a campaign created by Free the Children through which ‘trick or treaters’ collect non-perishable food items instead of candy to donate to local food banks. Halloween for Hunger gives young people the opportunity to help end hunger in their own communities. Last year, youth from 408 schools donated 217,713 pounds of food to their local food banks. That’s enough to feed 2,221 families for a week, or 555 families for a whole month! In addition to a how-to guide, flyers and the support of a youth programming coordinator, the Halloween for Hunger campaign includes elementary and secondary school lesson plans to help educators address local hunger and related issues with their students.
