With London Fashion Week having now come to a close and all eyes shifting over the channel to Paris for the haute couture and ready-to-wear presentations, ethical fashion continues to build momentum and gain recognition in cosmopolitan cities and on style horizons internationally. The Ethical Fashion Show in Paris has been creating a platform for ethical fashion since 2004, along with London Fashion Week’s Estethica, now in its seventh season. But it is rather exciting to report that Ethical Fashion NYC 2009 made its debut at the conclusion of this September’s New York fashion week. Inaugurated with an ethical fashion exhibition and recycling room at The International Fashion Trade Show The Train New York, it is evident that this is just the beginning of bringing a full-scale Ethical Fashion Show event to New York’s fashion weeks to come. EFS/NY featured several booths organized as ‘cabinets de curiosités’ that demonstrated the underpinnings of ethical fashion, including a materials room that highlighted natural fibers and organic cotton; a how-to recycling room; as well as a demonstration of fair trade, culture-specific skills. Images by French photographer, Lional Astruc, also served to illustrate the inroads being made with sustainable and ecological initiatives globally. The focus of the event was to propose what challenges we collectively face as we work to put an ethical and environmentally sound agenda on the plate for the international fashion/ textile industries. ‘Icons’ were also used in the exhibition to pinpoint why certain products and designs best demonstrated sustainable production and codes of ‘good conduct’. The event was a bit of a surprise to the eco fashion community here in NYC, as so much attention had been put on The GreenShows as well as Nolcha’s Ethical Fashion Preview. That said, NYC seems to be opening its doors to the wave of ethical fashion events that seem essential now to any truly legitimate fashion week.

Ethical fashion in NYC written by LadyLUX, September 27, 2009
I also think it's great that so much attention was given to ethical fashion events during Fashion Week New York this year. I think the more that the mainstream consumer understands the fashion component of being ethical and / or green, the better for the industry. Green clothing is no longer just for "hippies" - there are soma amazing designs out there. We are very supportive of bringing ethical and green education to our readers, and our "Green" section (http://www.ladylux.com/style/site/articles/cat/green/) has become one of the fastest growing facets of the site. I really enjoy your coverage here at Eco Fashion World!

Mohair usually refers to a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat. Mohair is one of the oldest textile fibers in use and it's both durable and resilient.
