FUN AND BASICS
Ah, the joy of Christmas travel, crammed airports, carol singers stalking you to your gate, traffic jams on the highways... But at the end of the road, finding yourself amongst family and friends makes it all worthwhile. Of course, there are always ways to green your travel, from trying to use the less polluting option (like traveling by train), to offsetting your carbon emissions (check out this handy comparative survey of different offsetting companies, to making better suitcase choices if you have to buy a new one.

Here is our selection of chic carry on-s and carry all-s for the eco fashionista on the go:

Spanish accessories firm fun&basics has just launched a new eco-conscious material for its always hip and functional bags and suitcases. ECOALF 1.0 is 100% recyclable, made with 100% recycled PET fabric and biodegradable glue. Fun&basics R&D department has been working on ECOALF 1.0 since 2007. With a soft finish, nice to the eye and highly resistant, ECOALF 1.0 is made of recycled PET bottles -70 bottles are saved from the land fields per each meter of yarn, and PVC free.

For a luxurious take on recycled inner tube luggage, the stylish, functional, unisex carry-all from

Passchal is the perfect weekender bag! Passchal uses a mix of inner tubes with vegetable tanned and chrome-free leather to create unique pieces that have been featured on The Today Show and Rolling Stone magazine, to name a few.

We’ve already told you about the controversial backpack from Stella McCartney line of 100% recycled Eco Polyester bags for LeSportsac, but there are also several more classic pieces that mix clean lines with functionality and that covetable Stella touch.

Another great 100% recycled polyester option comes from Patagonia, this wheelie holds up to five day’s worth of clothing, has a laptop pocket and can turn into a backpack if you pull out the hideaway straps.

Finally, we love the soft finish and range of colors for this little Mandarina Duck suitcase from their sustainable Joy line. The bags and travel goods are made from DuPont™ Sorona®, a renewably sourced polymer that is partially made from corn for fabric.

One last packing tip: keeping it light is as good for the environment as it is for your back and your sanity (carry on people, it’s the only way to go), so lay out everything you’d like to bring on your bed and pack about a third of it. Just don’t forget your underwear!
