Charlie Boots is one of the latest names in ethical fashion after a new label was recently launched in Bristol. The label “Charlie Boots” is the brainchild of Charlie Harrison, a local fashion designer who creates original, stylish women’s wear from ethically sourced materials which are then fabricated according to a very high standard by a small team of talented seamstresses in the Bristol area. The ethics of the fashion industry have once again been thrust under the spotlight recently after a series of exposés uncovered the true cost of high street fashion in relation to the environment and the human cost of the workforce needed to produce the high volume/low quality garments that are often in demand.
Charlie Harrison’s vision is clear: “I want to show the fashion world that you do not have to compromise when it comes to style and quality when the ethical history of your clothes is important to you. I believe that people will love my clothes for their design and for the care and attention to detail with which they are made: the fact that they are produced from ethically sourced materials and made by people being paid properly for their expertise is simply the way modern fashion should be. As consumers, we shouldn’t expect anything less.” Charlie Boots offers its customers an exciting range of day and evening wear that utilizes fair-trade fabrics, re-claimed fabrics, organic cottons, vintage materials (such as 1930’s ‘feedsacks’) and bamboo. In addition to the website, Charlie is offering potential customers the opportunity to see her work at a variety of outdoor events this summer, including one at ‘Vintage at Goodwood’ from the 13th to the 15th of August.
