Have you ever wondered what happens with the actual film that is projected onto the big screen at the cinema? Modulab ecodiseño, a pioneering company based in Chile, is using a Mexican weaving technique to refashion used 35mm film into a stunning collection of handbags.

Inspired by the magic of the film industry, Modulab previously recycled movie billboard banners into a diverse collection including a messenger bag, laptop bag, yoga mat holder, tote bag and clutch with wristlet. The billboard banner material provided a strong quality base with impressive graphics. With the recently completed collection, the Modulab ecodiseño team looked to put an updated twist on a well known weaving technique through the use of yet another unexpected material. Strips of previously used film are interwoven then lined. The bag styles offer the option to wear as a clutch or shoulder bag and are available in a variety of colors for the strap and handle.

OCEANS13.jpgEach Modulab ecodiseño bag has a story to tell. If you hold any of the new refashioned film bags up against light you may recognize scenes of the particular motion picture from which the film originally derived. The combined distinctive characteristics of the weaving technique and the narrative content of the movie film used, make these Modulab ecodiseño bags not only attractive and unique, but also truly inimitable.

Small shops surrounding the area of Santiago de Chile are employed through the production of these skillful creations and Modulab ecodiseño currently works in conjunction with Disney, Fox, Bazuca Films, Warner Brothers and United International Pictures among other large organizations to acquire materials.

The future goals of the company do not lie alone in the reuse of film industry material and the spearheading of eco fashion campaigns for their handbags. Modulab ecodiseño looks to increase their distribution beyond the current measures, they look to influence a constant mindset which incorporates recycle and reuse, and they look to offer every ounce of their energy and talent to improve the story of our planet.
