STELLA MCCARTNEY
The search for the perfect winter coat is always a difficult one, add on the eco criteria and it becomes an even bigger challenge. Somehow, warmth and fashion often seem to be at odds. Enter faux-fur: in the hands of ethically minded designers, these man made pelts can provide all the warmth and glamorous appeal you need with none of the cruelty. Some great examples are the architectural demi couture coats by NYC based SanS and the tufted wool coats that Stella McCartney brings back every Fall/Winter season.

But if you’re looking to get a little bit more creative, why not try your luck at this year’s Annual Fur Free Competition. Independent designers are invited to enter their fur free fashions for a chance to win cash prizes, boost their fashion career, and help promote the ethical and environmental benefits of foregoing fur fashion. This is an extraordinary opportunity for emerging fashion designers to showcase their talent and contribute to a worthy cause. Top entries will be judged and winners selected by Sophie Uliano, green living guru and author of New York Times Bestseller Gorgeously Green; Summer Rayne Oaks, eco-model, activist, spokesperson, and resident expert for Discovery Network’s Planet Green; and Brita Belli, editor of E / The Environmental Magazine. Josh Dorfman, author and television host whose TV series The Lazy Environmentalist airs on Sundance Channel's The Green, joins us as a judge to select the winner of "The Green Award."

As piña fiber recovery is only about 1%, it can take six months to gather enough fiber to produce two... Read More |
