HOT-3.jpg Imagine riding through the city with the wind blowing through your hair…from LA to Sidney, from Paris to Mumbai, bicycles are picking up speed as the favorite mode of urban transportation. A couple of weeks ago, Paris celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Velib, a city wide public bicycle service. This iconic shot of Agyness Deyn taken last year at the time of the launch captures the essence of the fashion world’s realization that “bikes are the new Ferraris”. And what’s not to like: more hot legs and less smelly gasses! Of course, there is the problem of accessories. A basket to plop your purse in is always nice, but there’s a reason the people who use bicycles the most have a special bag named after them: theBILUM-AGNES-B.jpg messenger. This often shapeless carrier in black nylon with fluorescent accents isn’t normally our cup of tea, so we went on a mission to source a few models that even a cycling starlet like Kate Hudson would be proud to carry.

To continue on the French wave, here is a first look at the latest models from the second Bilum and Agnès B.  collaboration. The creative patterns come from hand selected recycled PVC billboards and the sturdy straps are made from recycled seatbelts, best of all, these hand crafted beauties acquire a patina not unlike that of the best leather. Look out for them starting in September.

Moving to other countries, we also find a certain “je ne sait quoi” to these sleek square bags, whether it’s a grey vegan leather number by Matt&Nat, or a padded natural rubber carrier by Amazon Life.

MATT-NATT-AMAZON.jpg Another favorite is this Jacks&Marjorie saddle shaped bag, crafted from recycled duffle bags and military tent fabric. Finally, if you are truly feeling sporty and want to ride all the way into downward dog, look no further than this super chic faux croco yoga tote form Rozcoo.

Now, if only we could find a stylish solution to the helmet dilemma…HOT-2.jpgJACK-MARJORIE-HOT.jpgROZCOO-HOT.jpg

Eco Fashion Fact

Nettle or Nessle fabric

Nettle fabric is developed from the Brennessel plant and was very popular in the Middle-Ages when upper-class ladies preferred it over silk. This plant grows in almost all types of soils and it requires very little fertilization because the minerals are not leached out of the ground. Brennessel is naturally resistant to vermin and many parasites and can be grown...
