There was a time when the term “sustainable clothing” conjured up thoughts of drab looking garments made of obtrusive, potato sack-like materials, and the concept of gorgeous, silky, organic lingerie was simply inconceivable. It is with determination and passion that the unimaginable becomes reality as the green revolution fully and beautifully infiltrates the world of intimate wear.

Much of the eco-lingerie available today is made from organic cotton, silk, lace, chiffon, hemp, soya, bamboo and recycled fabrics. Free of pesticides and toxic chemicals, many of these garments are infused with color using plant-derived dyes then finished with natural findings such as organic buttons and ribbon accents.

Bringing us irresistible doses of sexy, playful and dreamy undergarments, eco-conscious designers and manufacturers introduce “intimate apparel, transformed….” Strap yourself in – your inner lingerie enthusiast is in for a thrilling ride. From provocative to sweet, ultra-luxurious to simple and classic, half a dozen of the most haute, environmentally proactive collections include:

Stella McCartney – A more than suitable extension of the brilliant designer’s well-established clothing collection, these flirty pieces are produced with earth-friendly, delicate fabrics, which are then constructed into ultra feminine styles. Highlights include organic cotton, chiffon and silk combined with delicate embroidery, ruffles and a beautiful color palette.

Enamore – An array of ethical, sexy pieces with a burlesque influence created from soft blends of soy, organic cotton jersey, bamboo, and organic or herbal dyed and printed silks. Garments are trimmed with English lace, buttons and satin ribbon to complete each look and are well accompanied by tantalizing accessories including matching blindfolds, wrist bow-ties, and sleep masks.

In addition to offering awe-inspiring ensembles, Eco-boudoir practices what they preach through strict anti-waste and pro-recycling policies and eco-friendly methods of digitally printing their silks.

Skin – A blend of simple, elegant sophistication, fashion and comfort. Skin’s various collections include an array of bras, panties, nighties, robes and more; all of the pieces are exemplary representations of the company’s aim to address and compliment the body.

Luva Huva – Recycling made sexy. These dainty eco-conscious undergarments are ideal for any girlie girl. Luva Huva lingerie is constructed from locally sourced end-of-line materials that could have otherwise been piles of scraps and waste, but are instead meticulously hand-sewn into frilly little pieces.

Urban Fox – Retro pieces made of organic cotton and machine-processed bamboo. Seductive, sultry, and infused with the theatrical flavor of costume design, Urban Fox truly is “lingerie for the knockout.”
