STELLA MCCARTNEY

We all know that winter sports increase your footprint the size of a snow boot. But we also know that it's lots of fun blazing the mountains, especially when you can do it in this fashionable eco gear! Our absolute favorites are the Stella McCartney for Adidas items. Eco designer McCartney has been teaming up with Adidas for some time creating ski wear to show off. Fashion and function combined in kaki, black and red pieces that look great both on and off piste!

Less skinny styles for more snowboard moves can be found at the Swedish company Klattermusen. They have developed this great Einride jacket made out of SKAL certified organic cotton. And it's not just innovation in their jackets, their merino wool garments are also available in eco blue styles that are dyed with natural herbs. Other brands also offer jackets, base-layers and pants although they're not always specifically designed as snow gear. Patagonia's colorful merinos promise a soft touch on the skin and natural odor control while their polyester jackets adopt a cradle to cradle approach, being 100% recyclable.

Swiss labels Mammut and Switcher   both offer outdoor clothing designed for Alpine sports. From sweatshirts to pants to jackets, the wide range on offer is worth checking out when you're planning your winter holiday. And while shopping, don't forget to buy special thermal underwear from Odlo . For fans of cross-country skiing, this is the place to go! Another brand that assures you of a fair labor process is the original surf, snow and lifestyle brand O'Neill . They offer funky and colorful snowboard gear targeted to the younger snowboard chick and dude. More classic styles can be found at Italian brand Napapijri that uses bio nylon and eco fur in their outdoor collections. But the latest innovation seems to come from Germany where designer Willy Bogner has integrated LED lamps in ski outfits. Together with the Eco Nico bamboo snowboard, we don't question an exciting future for eco friendly winter sports gear.

And if you're too much of a fashionista for these styles, try Ailin's multi functional insulated jacket or Sameunderneath belted coat. Both are not especially designed for the slopes, but if you layer them with sweet merinos from Nau , you'll stay warm along the ride.

Eco Fashion Fact

Stinging-Nettle Fabric

A recently re-discovered old fabric. Nettles were used to make textile until somewhere in the 19th century and it was mainly due to cotton that nettle cloth was forgotten. Nettle plants are resistant to disease and vermin and therefore don’t require any contaminating pesticides and herbicides. Only the fibers in the stems are used for making cloth; the leaves...
