IPANEMA FLIP FLOPS
Plastic is turning up on fashionable feet and runways worldwide. Everybody from Givenchy to Marc Jacobs and Chloé are getting in the game, so if you want to pay $177 for Givenchy jellies, be our guest… But if you’re opting for plastic in order to shun industrially tanned leather, summer is the perfect time to get started with some sustainably desirable options. We’ve been wearing plastic shoes for years and they are perfectly comfortable, the only tip we have is to stick to the ones that are open (at the toes or on the sides) so your feet can breathe.
IPANEMA SANDAL AND JELLY
You can follow in Gisele Bundchen’s footsteps by slipping on one of her funky designs for Ipanema Flip Flops. Not only does this company recycle 99% of its Industrial residues, painting residues, surplus PVC and the water used in production, but the shoes themselves are 100% recyclable when you’re done with them. This year, Gisele’s ‘Seeds’ collection will raise funds for the Forests of the Future project that reforests the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The Campana Brothers are also continuing their fruitful collaboration with the pioneers of plastic footwear: Brazilian brand Melissa. The new line is made of up to 30% recycled PVC and part of the money raised from the sales of the product will go to World Vision from Recife, an institution that the duo knows and participates developing works.
MELISSA FLAT AND TERRA PLANA DOPIE
Last but not least, we are determined to learn to wear Dopies without the strap this summer! This innovative shoe by green footwear company Terra Plana is the result of their search for a sandal in a simpler and pure form: a single shape sole to protect the foot that folds up between the toes to provide control (an optional strap is provided to add extra functionality to Dopie beginners). Now you’re ready to face the city, the beach and anything else you have planned for summer!
