BODY POLITIC

If you’re in Vancouver and want to shop some eco-fabulous pieces, check out Main street! Here you will find an abundance of boutiques selling the designs of local artists, in addition to some of the best eco fashion stores in town.

On the South-East corner of 12th and Main, on number 208 E 12 Avenue, you will find body politic. Owner Nicole Ritchie-Oseen stands by the motto of her store: ‘sustainable design - limitless style’ as she supports the talented designers who have been ahead of the fashion curve in creating beautiful, interesting, and sustainable collections. She carries some of the best ethical designers from the United States and Canada such as Lav & Kush, Nixxi, and Thieves and we love her urban and contemporary taste of both the store and the lines she carries.

Just around the corner from Main street at 198 E 21st, Stephanie Ostler runs her shop Devil May Wear. Known for her sexy ruffle bottom knickers, Stephanie has evolved into designing not only clothes, but accessories as well. She sells everything from jewellery, to men’s ties to even her own photography and all of it deserves close inspection as they are handmade with the passion that Stephanie puts into her work. If you’re lucky you get to meet her in person because she is not just dedicated to her art, but also to making the world a better place.

Twigg and Hottie on number 3671 sells some of our Vancouver favourites like Elroy and Nicole Bridger. Leanne McElroy, creator of the Elroy line and a vegan herself, is known for her sophisticated street wear for the contemporary health conscious woman. Her latest collection brings eclectic prints and ultra soft organic cotton that looks like denim and is perfect for the piggy pants, the summer dress and the playful shorts which will certainly freshen up your wardrobe. Nicole Bridger offers higher priced classics like the courage cardigan, the lady dress and the presence top. The eco fabrics just seem to get better and better and just like Elroy, Nicole also offers her pieces in some body hugging materials. In addition to carrying accessories and clothes from other designers, Twigg and Hottie also carry their own line We3.

On number 3623 you will find Hum that sells Canadian design such as eco brand Flora & Fauna. Drawing inspiration from beauty in nature and the irresistible cuteness of animals, designer Pauline Siu creates pieces that reflect her deep love for the natural beauty in our world. With a blend of clean lines, rich colours, and a sporty style, Flora & Fauna incorporates nature and animal themes into each design and is proud to support local animal welfare and nature conservation organizations.

Forsya Boutique on number 2206 sells the colourful designs of Adhesif. Very soon, the brand will open her own retail store just next door on 2202 Main at E. 6th Avenue so look out for more Adhesif on this side of Main!
