PASSCHAL

Eco-designers are venturing way outside the box in all stages from initial concept to the intricacies of design to final product manufacture. If you are anything like me, laptop in tow everywhere you go, you need a bag that is sturdy and equipped with the right accessory compartments but not too bulky.

Poof! Your wish is their command - functional, lightweight, fashionable and sustainable laptop bags and cases. Uber-demanding fashion exec or modest-budget student, take your pick:

Passchal uses recycled tractor tire inner tube portions framed with beautiful metallic hardware accents and leather by-product materials. Take a peak at their Brief bag which fits laptops up to 17” and features a handle and shoulder strap as well as pockets, dividers and a brushed matte nickel Swiss lock.

Constructed of recycled, light blue, woven cotton canvas with contrasting ochre stitching, and fully lined with recycled golden ochre cotton, The Gleaner Bag by hu.made features a whole host of pockets in all sizes, inside and out. The unisex bag closes easily with a fabric strap and all hu.made bags are fully interfaced for extra structure and durability.

Targus by EcoSmart manufactures backpacks, cases and messenger bags equipped to hold a laptop and accompanying necessities. Putting used plastic bottles to good use, collections are made from recycled PET and other eco-friendly materials. In an effort to continually reduce their carbon footprint, Targus uses renewable and recyclable office and packaging supplies and also participates in projects with The Conservation Fund, Dell and Apple

Offering something a little more decorative in a wide variety of colors, prints, shapes and styles including laptop bags, briefcases, sleeves, rolling bags and backpacks, Kolobags has been providing fashion for technology since Fall 2004. Whether you are looking for a bag that will protect your laptop and just carry the bare necessities, or a larger case to house pens, folders, glasses and gadgets, Kolobags has a large inventory of laptop holders composed of materials including recycled rice bags and juice boxes, recycled polyester, water-based dyed canvas, faux suede and other nature friendly materials.

REDMALOO

Because sometimes all the bells and whistles just get in the way, redmaloo introduced fabric kimono-like sleeves for laptops, which are handmade in Germany. 100 percent wool felt wraps protectively around the laptop and fastens securely with Velcro closures. Understated shapes in high-quality, natural fabrics are reintroduced to serve modern day needs.
