As more and more designers embrace ethical fashion, workout enthusiasts—those who want their clothing to be as healthy as their bodies—are at the forefront of this revolution. Since sports and exercise gurus aim to treat their bodies as temples, it’s no surprise that those designing workout fashion take the production of materials and their impact on the earth very seriously. While organic workout wear is nothing new to eco fashion, there are some brands that lead the pack when it comes to innovation, technologies and presentation.

Last year, EFW was lucky enough to interview the designers behind innovative sportswear and lifestyle clothing, Sébola, at Ethical Fashion Show in Paris. Since then, the company has introduced new pieces continuing its mission of combining ethics, aesthetics and technical aspects. The sports collection, made in France, is produced of materials such as tencel and recycled polyester, while the casual collection is made completely from organic cotton, certified by EKO and GOTS. The affordable collections - which consist of T-shirts, sports shorts, pants, polos and sweaters – use breathable lightweight fabrics, plain seams and most importantly, are both high on performance and comfortable.

In order to create these sporty, technologically-savvy designs, Sébola enlists fashion designers, graphic designers and artists to work on the cuts, patterns, prints and colors to offer a personal and original range of styles. One example is the FS shorts, basic, retro athletic shorts with a white binding made of lightweight fabrics lyocell and polyester.

Like Sébola, Vital Eco-Wear insists on using the latest technologies to produce seamless garments based on body mapping and nano-technology so that the fabric responds to every need in every area of the body. VITAL eco-wear is a provider of high performance, bio-functional sportswear that incorporates the latest fibres – such as copper, coconut and bamboo – developed to enhance skin health, regulate temperature and moisture, screen out UV rays and offer anti-bacterial protection. Its four different product lines, Yoga & More, Workout & Fitness, Outdoor Action, and Winter Sports, innovate by integrating different kinds of fibers in different areas of the garment, depending on where the body will be most moist, where it needs stretch or support, and where it needs extra protection.

prAna also offers innovative workout wear that is both sharply designed while also being incredibly resilient. This collection takes into account that movement does not begin and end with your gym or yoga studio workout and has therefore extended its line with flowing easy dresses that can be dressed up or down so you can face the workout of daily city life with comfort and style such as the Willow Dress . Meanwhile pieces like the Sabin Racer Top add some interesting patterns to your basic climbing/yoga top. And speaking of heating up, prAna even offers women’s headbands to keep hair off your face and keep you cool.
