Looking for an exciting opportunity to work in South-America? The Andean Collection (AC) seeks a full time production coordinator in Ecuador to manage all aspects of the AC (90%) and The Andean Project (AP) the AC’s non-profit arm, (10%). This position will report to and work closely with the Founder, Amanda Judge (MALD 2008). The production coordinator will oversee three lead artisan groups and their respective assistant artisans (totaling approximately 25 artisans). This role helps to build the artisans' capacity as well as streamline the operations of the AC in Ecuador. It is crucial that the candidate is self motivated and able to work independently as apart from the artisans, the production coordinator will make up the entire AC presence in Ecuador. While physically located in Ecuador, this position will work closely with AC NYC, which consists of 3 full time employees. AC NYC is the main branch of the Andean Collection where all sales & marketing activities occur.

Andean Collection (90%) activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the production process to ensure safe working conditions and adherence to fair trade guidelines
  • Help coordination of new designs from AC NYC and from artisans.
  • Coordinate the completion of AC orders including artisan payments and international shipping
  • Assist artisans in securing raw materials from suppliers in Ecuador and Peru Develop and carry out business training seminars to increase the artisans’ capacity to run their own small businesses.
  • Manage all business operations of AC in Ecuador

Andean Project (10%)

  • Oversee the management of the Andean Project,
  • 501c3 status pending Distribute scholarships and school supplies
  • Determine the programmatic direction of the AP
  • Manage all administrative activities of the AP in Ecuador

Location: The position will be based in the Andean region of Ecuador (in indigenous communities near Otavalo), with some time spent in the Ecuadorian coastal region (in a community near Manta).

Desired Qualifications

  • Fluent and excellent communication skills in Spanish and English Graduate degree in development economics, Latin American studies, human security, public policy or related field (Exceptions will be made for outstanding applicants with appropriate experience and undergraduate degree)
  • Self motivated and desire to contribute to the growth of the AC is essential
  • Experience living and working in a developing country (preferably Latin America) & ability to travel and work independently
  • Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative/financial skills related to running a small business
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player
  • Demonstrated ability to construct and manage relationships in multicultural environments
  • Familiarity with the laws of importing/exporting and of Ecuador in general a plus;
  • Willingness to learn these items is a must.

Timeline/Compensation: This position will commence the beginning of June 2010 and is a 1 year, renewable contract where the first 2 months of this position will be a training internship (unpaid but expenses covered), with full time pay starting in the third month, August. Pay will be commensurate with experience.
