What’s old to me may very well be new to you and vice-versa. My sister and I grew up swapping clothing with each other and friends. Sharing closets made life easier at times and let’s not forget to mention, quite fun. How many times have you stared at your closet chock-full of things and proclaimed “I have absolutely nothing to wear”?

Wear is that from? This question now leads you to the Textile Library, a recently launched initiative by Earth Pledge. The library includes classifications, techniques, textiles, certification and questions to ask suppliers like: ´What amount of care (i.e. washing) does this fabric require? Is the finish free of hazardous chemicals (i.e. formaldehyde)? and ´Are sustainable practices used in the cultivation of this crop (i.e. wastewater recycling, crop rotation)?´. In the library you will find over 600 sustainably produced textiles, including organic materials, sasawashi, pina, bamboo, milk protein and sea leather. The comprehensive database responds to designers´ needs to be easily and effectively connected to suppliers of fabrics.

The ideal capsule wardrobe: a light carry on containing a few perfect pieces that you can wear from day to night, day after day, customizing them to get a different and original look every time. The reality of a capsule wardrobe: you, paying for excess baggage weight at check in…
Well, fret no more, there is now a real world solution. A former architect with a PHD in “fashion customization” and years of design experience, Bernice Pan is a lady with many tricks up her sleeves, or for that matter, in her cuffs, pockets and pleats. In 2006, she launched her customizable demi-couture brand DePLOY to offer solutions to the sustainable fashionista who wants more from a garment than a one-time kick. All Deploy creations are in fact two or three garments in one. This multi-functional and interactive approach to dressing up soon found a large fan base in London and this summer, Deploy had to grow out of its original studio.
