Wear is that from? This question now leads you to the Textile Library, a recently launched initiative by Earth Pledge. The library includes classifications, techniques, textiles, certification and questions to ask suppliers like: ´What amount of care (i.e. washing) does this fabric require? Is the finish free of hazardous chemicals (i.e. formaldehyde)? and ´Are sustainable practices used in the cultivation of this crop (i.e. wastewater recycling, crop rotation)?´. In the library you will find over 600 sustainably produced textiles, including organic materials, sasawashi, pina, bamboo, milk protein and sea leather. The comprehensive database responds to designers´ needs to be easily and effectively connected to suppliers of fabrics. We know Earth Pledge from their 2005 FutureFashion runway show that has evolved into a yearly event since. In 2007 they published the White Papers, a collection of 30 compelling essays by scientists, retailers, farmers, dyers, models and others in the industry, including Diane von Furstenberg, Julie Gilhart, and Shalom Harlow. FutureFashion White Papers take an in-depth look at the fashion industry and provides a thoughtful, wide-ranging analysis of how a transition to sustainability can be achieved.
