While on holiday in Southern India in 2007, Lianne Ludlow, a full time journalist at the time who had worked for publications like Glamour and Cosmopolitan, read articles on climate change and environmental concerns. Ludlow felt a rise in demand for more ethical clothing and came up with the idea to create an online boutique sourcing the best in eco fashion from all over the world. She would name it Fashion-Conscience.com.

Ludlow’s fashion magazine industry friends gathered to help shoot, style and design the original website. With her goals in choosing products to first focus on fashion then ethics as an added bonus, and also a desire to uncover small unique labels that could not be found in the UK, Ludlow launched Fashion-Conscience.com in November 2007. Fashion-Conscience instigated press coverage for labels such as Doucette Duvall, Camilla Norrback, Ashley Watson, VerdeRocks, Emobi, Fin, Bibico, Minna and more.

To give credit where credit is due, Fashion-Conscience.com was the first eco boutique to notice the vegan and eco credentials of Melissa shoes. They were also the first eco boutique to stock organic Monkee Genes (the first jeans to get accreditation from the Soil Association) and the first to support vegan footwear label NEUAURA in the UK, whose vegan riding boots flew out last season.

Since conception, Fashion-Conscience.com has grown from a neat collection of around ten labels to a bevy of approximately 50. Recently, they have helped launch Go Green M by M, a great line of body conscious tanks, dresses and tees that are made from eco fiber modal; Matt by Matt and Nat, the diffusion line from vegan bag label; and Where shoes, the first line of fair trade fashion forward shoes, which thanks to their edgy design, have done incredibly well with the site.

The continued growth of Fashion-Conscience.com is down to the clever selection of products and ongoing site re-design to help make it easier to find products. Ludlow has exciting plans for the future of Fashion-conscience.com , which will include developing new exclusive lines and continuing to uncover and support unique labels that hit the season’s key trends, while bringing to the fore amazing developments in sustainable fibers and production.

Shop Fashion-Conscience.com now! They are having a SALE from now until mid-July and be sure to check out top seller Melissa shoes featuring the brand new and very exciting Jean Paul Gaultier vegan and recyclable stiletto on pre-order.
