Pure Pod takes Bite out of the Big Apple

Pure Pod takes a bite out of the big apple at G’Day USA and isselected as a finalist in the FGI Awards.

Leading Australian & Byron Bay “eco” women’s wear brand Pure Pod, braved New York’s freezing January temperatures to take part in G’Day USA’s Australian Fashion & Jewellery showcase.

“Wowing” the US attendees with their beautiful “Sheep Friendly” Merino Wool range, Pure Pod was one of only 6 clothing designers & 7 jewellery designers, to be hand-selected from across Australia to showcase their collections at the Government supported trade event, which ran from 19-21 January at the Australian Consulate-General in Manhattan NYC.

The event gave Pure Pod an opportunity to showcase their designs to high-end retailers, fashion media, stylists and agents in one of the world's most competitive fashion markets.

Pure Pod founder and head designer, Kelli Donovan, said taking part in the event gave the company a great opportunity to expand their business internationally.

“Pure Pod is incredibly proud to have been selected by Austrade as one of just 13 brands to represent Australia at G’Day USA in New York,” Kelli said.

“As one of the pioneers in Australia’s fast growing eco and sustainable fashion industry, we were excited at the interest we received at the event from US buyers in our merino wool knit collection and our new spa uniform collection made from fair trade organic cotton.

“Pure Pod brings a simple, contemporary style to the organic and sustainable fashion markets – showing that living and dressing well can be as good for you as it is for the generations to come,” Kelli added.

Based near Byron Bay in New South Wales, Pure Pod was launched in 2007 and has grown to become one of Australia’s largest dedicated, ethical women’s wear brands, with clients throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, US and SE Asia.

Pure Pod is 100 % Australia Made, using luxury ethical, sustainable and eco textiles such as merino wool, soya bean, bamboo, organic cotton, hemp, silk and organic linen.

In 2010 Pure Pod was discovered on Twitter by a Canadian fashionista and the label was invited to show in the inaugural Eco fashion Week in Vancouver Canada, more recently, Pure Pod has been named as a finalist in the FGI (Fashion Group International) Awards for Excellence in the Sustainable Design category, to be announced on the 18th March 2011 in Sydney, they have their fingers crossed.

After all their hard work, Pure Pod is gaining the recognition it deserves, making a name for itself, but most importantly educating the general consumer toward “Eco Fashion” and an understanding of sustainable business practices within the fashion industry.
