| ECO FASHION: THE NEW LUXURY |

Fabric made out of pineapple, woodpulp, bamboo jersey and seaweed. It all sounds very exotic and it is, if you think of wearing it on your body! The last few years have seen an increase in the creation of eco luxurious fabrics and it looks like this market is only growing. Founder and CEO of Osklen, Oskar Metsavaht, will give a talk on the development of this niche during Biofach Latin America to be held in São Paulo from October 23-25. With the increase in demand for innovative sustainable fabrics it looks like prices are becoming more wallet friendly. To slip into a sasawashi dress of the Queen of Luxury Eco Linda Loudermilk you still pay $ 800. But it’s worth it considering the fact that this fabric is a mix of paper, herbs, vitamins and amino acids that contain anti-bacterial assets and clean your blood and skin. It’s no wonder Linda has a celebrity following with Hollywood stars such as Jane Fonda, Debra Messing and Robert Downey Jr. who is Loudermilk’s muse for her men’s line. “Eco chic is of interest to an elite group of consumers who want to differentiate themselves, the conscious consumer group is growing” comments designer Nadine Gonzales. Her ModaFusion Couture Ethique collection in which she has used banana fibre and PET of recycled plastic bottles, can be found in the best boutiques in Rio de Janeiro. With prices starting at $ 600, for the time being her designs are only available to wealthy fashionistas. Fortunately, there is a growing number of labels offering more affordable designs to us. Ciel, Noir and Rianne de Witte integrate materials like bamboo, corn and soy in their collections. Osklen pioneers with introducing fish skin and vegetable leather in Brazilian prêt-a-porter and establishing e-fabrics to promote these new products. Dutch label Alchemist brings luxury eco even closer with The Perfect Black Dress made out of woodpulp. For the price of € 194,95 it’s still too expensive to use as fuel for the winter evening fireplace, but definitely too beautiful as well!
