Expectations run high for the new American presidency. Already, the pre-inauguration weekend kicked off with two competing Green Inauguration Balls. The 2009 Green Inaugural Ball on Monday 19th is chaired by Al Gore, while The Green Ball presented by Discovery’s Planet Green that took place on Saturday 17th featured singer Wyclef Jean and an eco fashion show…guess which one we wanted to attend!

NANCY-JUDD-ALUMINUM-DRESS.jpgMostly we wanted to admire in person the whimsical creations of “trashion” designer Nancy Judd. The recycling whiz who started her career working at the Santa Fe city trash department created her new business “Recycle Runway” two years ago in order to educate and promote alternative uses for solid waste. Not a fashion designer by training, she doesn’t sell her pieces but uses them to spark people’s interest in learning more about a subject that seems anything but glamorous.

However, if this does inspire you to wear some recycled fashion, you’ll find many gorgeous and very wearable options by browsing our guide. If Sharon Stone and Rhianna can look this good in their up-cycled Deborah Linquist cashmere, why not you?

NANCY-JUDD-DRESS-DETAIL.jpgTalking about inspiration, the soon to be First Lady is already quite the fashion icon. Green design blog Inhabitat has already launched an online survey to pick Michelle Obama’s best options for making her wardrobe more sustainable and setting the example. But there is a whole green team in Barack Obama’s new administration who could start dressing the talk by picking eco designers. As we showed in the recent Office issue of our magazine, there are now more options than ever for green office looks for both men and women!
