Want to dress like a celebrity but you don’t count Giorgio Armani among your personal circle of friends? Or maybe you just want an extra special outfit for your best friend’s wedding, or a designer bag to go to a job interview… Either way, renting one-time-wear clothes and accessories is the green way to go, not only do you create less waste and save money, you also leave more room in your closet for the clothes you actually do wear all the time!

And no, tuxedos aren’t the only items of clothing up for rental anymore, savvy fashionistas can hire anything from luxury sunglasses, to designer couture and bling bags with a couple of clicks to an online rental shop. Here are some great addresses to check out before your next event:

US

It all started with the famous scene in the Sex and the City movie where Jennifer Hudson tells Sarah Jessica Parker about her luxury bag renting addiction from Bag Borrow and Steal. Today you can rent everything from handbags to jewelry, sunglasses, watches and more on the site. If it’s bridal fashion you’re looking for try One Night Affair for the bride of course but also bridesmaids and the rest of the wedding party. Other rental shops are pure fashion heaven such as Ilus NYC or Wear Today Gone Tomorrow.

UK

A great concept travels fast. For accessories Fashion Hire has you covered with all the latest and shiniest, and Girl Meets Dress is where you’re bound to find your next fling, be it with Cavalli or Missioni…

FRANCE

French women have twice the fun when dressing for weddings since there is no such thing as matching bridesmaid dresses! Then again, the pressure is on to find something new and special for every occasion. Luckily, two boutiques are there to save the day, carrying both bags and fashion: Mon Dressing Secretis the secret destination of well healed fashionistas while Ma Bonne Amie has the feel of a fashionable girlfriend’s closet (hint: a girlfriend who looked fabulous at events, even while pregnant!).

What’s coming next? Clothes-sharing is embarking on the social media highway! Singapore upstart Closet Infinite is presently building a Closet Library from which members will be able to borrow at will and earn credit with every donation to the common closet!

So don’t run the chance of getting bored with a dress or regretting an expensive purchase, get online and rent it, hire it or borrow it!
