ORGANIC JOHN PATRICK
While daredevil Evil Knievel may come to mind when we think of motorcycles and “biker” style, each of us has a certain amount of daring in our own clothing choices. And this fall, eco fashionistas have brought the biker state of mind to their styles, using everything from organic cotton to recycled neoprene and car parts to make this one of the top eco trends of the season. And what better way to define them than with an edgy, sexy biker jacket? Back in September 2008, designer John Patrick showed his first eco collection at New York Fashion Week. His SS09 organic collection , inspired by life on the American prairies in 1930, featured a cream biker jacket that offers a refreshing take on bad girl motorcycle chic. One of the original eco designers associated with biker fashion, Patrick’s pieces also include a Crop Biker Jacket, which is a tougher version of the cream jacket, among others.
FIN
With Keira Knightley and Kate Bosworth as fans, it’s no surprise that the Norwegian eco-lux brand FIN, has hopped on the biker bandwagon too. Designer Per Age Sivertsen created FIN’s line, which includes a Biker Inspired Jacket, with a woman's soul in mind. The look is feminine, but with a hint of masculinity in the biker inspired jackets and coats—definitely not for the feint of heart. The Biker Inspired Jacket is made entirely from organic cotton, is certified Fair Trade and part of a carbon neutral collection.
KELLY B
In New York City, ethical clothing shop Kaight sells designer Kelly B Tate’s Motorcycle Jacket, a sexy cropped biker jacket with three quarter length sleeves with zipper detail. The jacket is made from 50 percent organic cotton and 50 percent recycled polyester and certainly for an edgy lady.
RAW EARTH
While Raw Earth & Wild Sky is a Los Angeles-based clothing line focusing on beautifully relaxed pieces with a broken in look, their motorcycle jacket brings a whole new element of celebrity to the brand. A kind of ode to the 1980s band the Ramones, Raw Earth’s Ramones Biker Jacket is a fitted style made from organic cotton. An asymmetrical zipper looks great worn open or closed, and while the jacket has plenty of attitude, it shines with understated details like puffed sleeves and comfy fleece material. For those of us that want to make sure that the biker message is clear, wear it on a pretty pink, 100 percent USDA organic jersey cotton tee from Skreened. It may be just the right shirt to wear under a new biker jacket. Comments (3)
